Rand Paul and The Drug War

I’m a little late to the party on this, but Senator Rand Paul, who I commended a few weeks ago, became a little less interesting this month.

While speaking in Cedar Rapids, IA to a group of evangelical, Senator Paul reassured the group he does not support legalizing drugs, only softer penalties for drug offenses.

SWAT teams serving warrants for marijuana possession, warrantless searches of automobiles via drug-sniffing dogs, abusive asset forfeiture proceedings, deployment of flash-bang grenades into homes, no-knock raids, stop and frisk searches: all of these constitutionally dubious methods are deployed in fighting the war on drugs. All of these methods, and any collateral damage that occurs when they’re deployed, would continue unabated under Senator Paul’s policies.
