Discrediting The Imperial Presidency?

The Justice Department spying scandal has prominent liberals rightfully outraged. The IRS scandal has prominent conservatives talking impeachment. But let’s not forget the other “highlights” of the Nobel Peace Prize winner’s reign in office:

increased use of warrantless spying

disregarding the law with our bombing of Libya

claiming the power to detain American citizens without due process of law

authorizing the execution of American citizens without due process of law, one of whom was a teenager

a drone war that has killed women and children

I know it’s wishful thinking, but nevertheless it’s my sincere hope that the current controversies in the news, coupled with the other actions of the last 12-plus years we’ve seen emanate from the Executive Branch, will forever discredit, tarnish, and de-mythologize the idea of an imperial presidency.

A blogger can certainly dream.
