Finally, A Republican Who Makes Sense

This being Senator Rand Paul (son of Ron Paul), who is embracing immigration reform and dismissing statements by Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh that “amnesty” creates future Democratic voters. Per Paul, it’s not like the GOP has been too competitive in the last couple presidential elections, anyway. As the link points out, even the Coulter/Limbaugh spin is debatable, as 32% of Latinos are more likely to vote Republican if they’d embrace immigration reform.

The other talking points the anti-immigrant crowd like to point out, such as immigration hurts the economy, lowers wages and takes away jobs, immigration increases crime, and immigrants consume more in public benefits than they pay in taxes, are patently false.

If immigrants view Ann “having illegitimate children and going on welfare” Coulter and Rush “Space Aliens” Limbaugh as the spokespeople for the GOP, than their fear of “creating Democratic voters” is really just a self-fulfilling prophecy, and they only have themselves to blame.

Kudos to Senator Paul for pursuing a more humane approach.
